Jan. 13th, 2005 02:23 pmJust an excuse to mention my favourite short verse of all time. (1) It's very silly, and has none of the deeper meaning or profundity of Stu's choice.
Jabberwocky has always stuck in my head. Yes, I know Carroll was a mathematician and quite profoundly strange, and the poem means absolutely nothing. If I must confess it, my favourite poet is Sylvia Plath, and you can't get further away from Jabberwocky than her without rocket boosters. But that poem up there has a wonderful flow and invention, unmatched except for Gerald Manley Hopkins and others who I'm sure you'll tell me about.
I must read more poetry...
