The Third Channel: pinched from
clanwilliam
May. 8th, 2007 04:37 pmSir Patrick Moore - dontchajustlovim? - has gone on record saying that he feels that the BBC has been ruined by wimmin putting on terrible things like soap operas and quiz shows. He's also suggested that it's inevitable that we will see channels dedicated to men and women.
Now, quite apart from the fact that Bravo bills itself as "Entertaining Men Since 1985", I feel that the GamesMaster may not be aware of those of us who fall between the gaps. So, based on a similar question in another LJ, I would like to ask you;
Which TV programmes would you schedule on a regular, non-pr0n, TV channel aimed at those of us who do not conform to the norms of gender or sexuality? What programmes would you commission?

Date: 2007-05-08 04:26 pm (UTC)I'd schedule Dr Who, Torchwood, QI, Have I Got News For You (yes, I know they're quiz shows, but they're funny) and Red Dwarf. And probably some more I can't think of at the moment.
And less of those X-Factor style shows, especially ones where the contestants have to be under (insert ridiculously young age here)

Date: 2007-05-08 10:31 pm (UTC)Dr Who, Torchwood, Space 1999, ReGenesis, BSG, B5, ST(all), Cracker, Prime Suspect, some good stand up comedy stuff (Bill Bailey, Mitch Benn, Jack Dee, etc), lots of programmes about natural disasters and earth sciency stuff, X-files, Buffy, Cadfael, Roswell, Messiah, Johnathan Creek, 24, Yes (prime) Minister, Red Dwarf, Stargate(all), Dark Angel, repeats of good BBC/ITV dramas (like Children of the Stones, Quatermass, Tripods, Edge of Darkness, Omega Factor, Doomwatch, etc)...
...however, as there isn't a terrestrially available channel that caters to my tastes, I now have most of this stuff on DVD to watch as and when I want to :-)
Hallo there
Date: 2007-06-20 07:27 am (UTC)Hope you're feeling better after your early night and leaving half your Waggledance.
I'd commission a programme about feet. You might wonder what that's got to do with gender and sexuality but I feel it's very relevant.

Date: 2007-09-03 03:42 pm (UTC)I hate soaps (although I have fallen for Neighbours a couple times in my life when I've been housebound, but cable TV -- History and Civilisation -- has fixed that!).
I only like quiz shows that are funny (Have I Got News For You, QI), or actually ask intelligent questions (15-1, University Challenge), or are challenging with a fantasy element (Takeshi's Castle, Crystal Maze). I can't stand stuff like 'Deal or No Deal' or the multitude of afternoon trash that poses as a quiz show.
I doubt that most of the stuff I like has been scheduled by "wimmin". If TV does get gender streamed, then I want to watch what's classified as men's stuff, it that really is the accepted make up of women's TV!
