Looking Back
Dec. 31st, 2004 12:49 pm(lifted from
saintmaryuk)
There are too many of us on LJ that are constantly putting ourselves down and forgetting what good we do. The challenge for the first part of this meme, is to think of 10 good things you have done in 2004. Think hard. Everyone can think of 10 good things, big or small, that they have done in 2004. Now is the time to stand up and be counted, to acknowledge that yes indeed, you have done some things to be proud of. Time to tell your friends about them, so that you can receive a few well deserved pats on the back.
Congratulate me here on my achievements, and then post the above in your LJ along with your top 10 achievements, in no particular order:
1) I persuaded the oldest friend I have who still lives in the UK to move up to Manchester to house-share with me.
2) I picked up my guitar and played again. Started learning songs for the first time in about five years.
3) I grew enough to realise that being bisexual was ok...
4) ...and that, sometimes, controlled anger leading to positive action is an important part of being an adult.
5) I set up
myopedia as the first outlet for my creativity (see below for others)
6) I completed my first 2nd-year block of Open University work and got a Distinction
7) I helped a friend (you know who you are) get an interview which led to a job which he's still got
8) I cooked more and better food in the last 12 months than in the previous 5 years
9) I allowed several of my friends to take up (A) some geeky hobbies without shame
10) The control I have over my emotions got a lot better this year...granted, with help, but it did.
So, go on, congratulate me! ;-)
(A) - in some cases, take up again...8)

For the first part of this meme, I challenged you to look back, and to think of 10 good things you have done in 2004. Now, in part 2, your challenge is to think of 9 good things you want to do in 2005, perhaps to act as a basis for some New Year resolutions.
But, there’s a twist; leave the 10th one blank, post 9 in your LJ, then let your friends make suggestions for a 10th good thing that you could do in 2005.
It will be interesting to see what my friends think a good resolution for me would be.
So, my 9 ideas so far are:
1) Successfully complete the journalism course I received as a birthday gift (thank you everyone!) and hence begin making a living from writing. Some travel may be required.
2) Lose some weight, and exercise more (at least five times a week in total)
3) Finish in the top quarter of a Magic: The Gathering tournament with more than 8 people in it
4) Have at least 20 songs I can play on my guitar to performance standard and be able to sing to 10 of them
5) Read, watch and listen to a far wider selection of media than I do at the moment (could well be tied in with (1))
6) Become involved in the Manchester LGBT community
7) Become more involved in the UK Polyamory community
8) Learn to become more relaxed and at peace with my place in the world (through masterly inactivity if that's what it takes)
9) Think bigger.
So, go on, what should my tenth be?
10)
And now post your top 9 goals for 2005 in your LJ so I can come up with a 10th for you.

In comments, answer the questions posed by various songs as listed below with a lyric from another, unconnected song (f'r instance I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain? might be answered It never rains in Southern California) then copy and paste this in your own journal replacing the questions with five of your choice.
(I can't believe that Winamp threw number 4 at me...ah, synchronicity. Not that I have that CD.)
1. If I lend it to you, will you keep it safe for me? (Depeche Mode, It's Called A Heart)
2. Hey, you! Do you remember me? (The Darkness, Friday Night)
3. Is it any wonder that my mind's on fire? (Blue Oyster Cult, Flaming Telepaths)
4. What about those who swing both ways, AC/DCs? (Beck, Where It's At)
5. Why can't you see that you are my child? (System Of A Down, Forest)
shinyDan. A-memeing we will go, a-memeing we will go...
